What you do dressed as a civilian is your business, what you do as a civilian dressed in military garb can get you in deep shit as this Marine has found out. Unless you are John F. Kerry, with a pedigree from the Kennedy clan the kind of discharge you get from the military can haunt you in later life. Some less than stellar discharge papers can bar you from holding a high security position, lesser positions of trust and even limit your progression up the career ladder.
It was announced today that Marine Cpl. Adam Kokesh would get kicked out with a general discharge rather than the honorable discharge he could have received because he chose to wear a uniform in an anti-Iraq war demonstration while still a member of the Inactive Ready Reserve.
It's a rare occurance that an employer will overlook the degree of honor exemplified in writing from the DOD when they do a background employment check. Run for Congress Adam, credentials are meaningless and they'll take anyone in there.
