Nifong said Saturday he should be disbarred for his handling of the Duke lacrosse rape case.
In his closing argument Saturday morning, Douglas Brocker, an attorney for the state Bar Association, said Nifong exploited a weak but high-profile case to help him win a difficult re-election campaign.
"Mr. Nifong engaged in a systematic abuse of prosecutorial trust, power and discretion," Brocker said. " did not act as a minister of justice, but as a minister of injustice."
The three players in the case were cleared of wrongdoing in January after North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper took over the case amid criticism of Nifong's handling of it.
In addition to Collin Finnerty 20, players Reade Seligmann, 21, of Essex Fells, N.J., and David Evans, 24, of Bethesda, Md., were cleared.
Just announced, the NC State Bar association has unanimously decided to revoke Mike Nifong's license to practice law.
This doesn't reinstated the good names of the men wrongfully accused and persecuted by this prosecutor. Worse yet are those two race warlord poverty pimps, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton who have yet to step forward and issue a public statement that they were wrong when they were at the forefront of the accusations, howling for blood.
Not only is Mike Nifong guilty of abusing the public trust but both Sharpton and Jackson are equally guilty. Mike Nifong abused the judicial system for personal political gain, ruined the reputation of Duke University, the members of the Lacrosse team, their coach and the entire community. His actions destroyed the fabric of trust in the justice system, not only in North Carolina but nationwide. If the state of North Carolina corrects the horrible abuse of justice done these players and their team the state should grant them a cost free education at the university of their choice, restitution of all court costs and individual written statements of exoneration. Mike Nifong should be prosecuted and jailed for criminal negligence as well as his disbarment.
